I think I can self-identify as enjoying many basic things such as Starbucks, Vsco, Nutella, and of course Acai bowls (and I live in the mecca for them). Every block of Oahu, Hawaii has an Acai and juice bar. And I am not complaining. For me, there is nothing better than enjoying a refreshing bowl of Acai after a long hike to see breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean or the island. However, my bank account IS complaining. They can get a little pricey. But let me tell you why!

Acai is a superfruit berry found on an acai palm tree in South American rainforests. Some people call them “purple gold” because they are filled with:
Antioxidants
Fiber
Heart-healthy fats
Calcium
Many stores carry frozen acai berries and acai bowl ready mixes to be able to make them at home.
Here is an easy recipe for one of my favorite bowls!
½ cup frozen Acai
½ cup frozen berries
½ banana
½ cup almond milk
Honey
Sliced ½ banana
Almond butter
Nutella
Sliced strawberries
Mix in a blender: Acai, berries, banana, almond milk, and honey until smooth, If too thick add more milk, or if too thin add more berries or Acai. Top with sliced fruit, almond butter, and Nutella or desired toppings. Enjoy!
Some of my favorites acai bowls in the U.S are
Surfberry, Wilmington, NC
Sunrise Shack, Oahu, Hawaii
Clean Juice
Trader Joe’s frozen Acai bowl
Acai bowls have gained popularity because they are a convenient, healthy and yummy snack or meal, depending on the size and toppings. I love adding almond butter, coconut shavings, and cocoa nibs.
Next time you are at a place that offers acai bowls you try one. It might just turn into your new favorite snack.
